MRSA

List of Some Bacterial InfectionsMRSA – is there a scarrier word?  Everyone that has been or works in a hospital knows about MRSA.

Unfortunately MRSA has spread to children’s playgrouds, doctors’ offices, cruise ships, and lots and lots or other places.  Are antibacterial hand cleansers the answer?  Somewhat.  The problem becomes that MRSA, over time, will develop into an antibacterial resistant strain.  For now, wash your hands as often as possible.  Hand washing guideline should be lather soap over all fingers, front and back of hands and wrists and sing Happy Birthday before you rinse the soap off.

Here’s additional infomation:

  • Estimated 94,000 cases of MRSA infection in the United States annually.
  • Estimated 19,000 deaths from MRSA in the United States annually.
  • Estimated that one third of the population has S. aureus bacteria on their bodies at any given time.
  • The Center for Disease Control estimates that 1% of people carrying S. aureus have MRSA.
  • MRSA is spread from person to person though casual contact (shaking hands) or touching contaminated objects (bathroom door handles and hospital elevator buttons, to name just a very few).

If you have any reason to believe that you have MRSA, see

Remember – sing Happy Birthday every time you wash your hands.  And wash them frequently.
